Department Profile[]
The Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority (LNAA) Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) Department consists of 13 Personnel (1 Chief, 1 Captain, 2 Lieutenants, 4 Full time Firefighters, 5 Part Time Firefighters). There are on average 3 personnel on duty 24/7, with a minimum staffing of 2 personnel. Full Time Firefighters and Lieutenants work a 24 hours on/48 hours off with rotating Kelly days shift schedule. Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) is an ARFF Index C Airport. The department responds to 300+ calls annually to include mutual aid responses.
Commissioned in October 2003, the 13,000 sq. ft. ARFF facility is situated to yield the quickest response time to each of the existing runway ends and to the terminal building. The site is also located to serve a future parallel Runway 6/24.
