History[]
"The eighth fire department to be established in the county was Left Beaver Civil Defense or Left Beaver Fire and Rescue Squad. Founded in the mid 60's when several other areas of our county was establishing Civil Defense organizations, Left Beaver was the only CD group to evolve and stand the test of time. The group was founded on the banks of Left Beaver Creek in the community of Price in 1966. The first mention of the group was in the Floyd County Times on April 28th. It is unclear exactly when they officially became a rescue and fire department and not a CD. The department officially recognizes 1966 as their establishment date. As years progressed the department out grew their Price home and a second station was opened at the mouth of Frasure's Creek in East McDowell and then a third station on new route 680 at Minnie. They ran as many as 3 main engines, 2 tankers, 8 rescue trucks and 5 ambulances. Now in their 58th year of operation some things have came and gone but Left Beaver Fire and Rescue Squad stands strong on the banks of Left Beaver Creek. The ambulance service was forced to shut its door in 2017 due to funding issues, but the rescue squad and fire department is alive and well. They now operate 2 newer engines, a tanker truck, two rescue trucks and other support vehicles out of Price St. 1 and McDowell St. 2." - Floyd County Firefighters Association
As of 2017, Emergent Care EMS has taken over ambulance operations at LBVFD and has a unit housed at Station 1.
