The Kneeland Fire Protection District provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the unincorporated agricultural community of Kneeland, and the general aviation Kneeland Airport, located 9 miles east southeast of the City of Blue Lake in Humboldt County, Northern California, 87 miles south of the Oregon border. In addition, the Kneeland FPD provides “good will” emergency response to homes, ranches and areas around the district where no organized fire department exists. Combined, the district encompasses an area covering over 100 square miles. The Kneeland FPD is bordered by the Arcata Fire Protection District to the northwest, Blue Lake Volunteer Fire Department to the north, the unincorporated community of Maple Creek to the east, the City of Blue Lake to the east-southeast, the Bridgeville Fire Protection District to the south, and the Humboldt Bay Fire Authority to the west.
Mutual Aid[]
Kneeland FPD has mutual aid agreements with, among others, the CAL FIRE Humboldt-Del Norte Unit, the Arcata Fire Protection District, the Blue Lake Volunteer Fire Department (California), the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department (California), the Humboldt Bay Fire Department, the Fieldbrook Volunteer Fire Department, and the Maple Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
Department Profile[]
The Kneeland Fire Protection District consists of ten to twelve volunteer firefighters providing structural and wildland suppression, basic medical response, off-road rescue, hazardous materials response, weather-related/natural disaster events response, code enforcement, and public education to the citizens of the district out of a single fire station. Engine 8913 is the first response apparatus and can carry 5 firefighters plus the engineer. Kneeland FPD responds to an average of 30 calls annually, with over 80% being EMS calls.
Dispatch[]
Kneeland FPD receives its dispatch services from the CAL FIRE Humboldt-Del Norte Unit Emergency Command Center located in the City of Fortuna. This ECC provides dispatch services for 36 different agencies throughout Humboldt County.
History[]
The Kneeland Volunteer Fire Department was formed in 1982. On August 11, 1990, the Kneeland Fire Protection District was created to support the department.
