History[]

Fire service in the area of Kent, Washington were first provided through an informal department formed in 1892. In 1912, the Kent Volunteer Fire Department was formally established with 27 volunteers. The City of Kent began contracting fire service from King County Fire District No. 37 in 1974. In 1925 voters approved a $5,000 bond that allowed for the purchase of a new Howard Cooper pumper. The department began providing Emergency Medical Services in 1929. In 1974, Kent Fire Department and King County Fire District No. 37 consolidated into a single agency as the Kent FD.

The agency's name was changed to the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority in 2017.
