Formerly known as the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District it was renamed to the Inverness Fire Protection District in 2022.

The Inverness Fire Protection District operates as the Inverness Fire Department. It serves the unincorporated areas of Palatine Township, Schaumburg Township and a majority of the Village of Inverness.
