Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department

History[]

Hogansburg Volunteer Fire Department formally began in 1954. In 1960 the HVFD built a new station in Hogansburg, New York. The Cornwall Island Fire Brigade became part of the department and it was renamed "Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department" to represent the Akwesasne Mohawk Territory as a whole. In 1978 the Snye, Quebec firefighters joined the Hogansburg / Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department.

The HAVFD serves the Akwesasne Mohawk Nation on St. Regis Mohawk Reservation, New York, Akwesasne Reserve No. 15, Quebec and Akwesasne Reserve No. 59, Cornwall Island, Ontario.
