The Hillside Volunteer Fire Department was a volunteer fire department located in an unincorporated area of Prince George's County, Maryland. The department was organized in 1919, originally known as the Greater Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department #2. In 1960, a new fire station was constructed at 1234 Larchmont Avenue in Capitol Heights. The department closed in 1999 after declaring bankruptcy. The department's financial problems became insurmountable after it purchased several new pieces of apparatus on short term loans before its main revenue source, "fire house casino nights," was banned by the State of Maryland. Due to the close proximity of other nearby fire stations, Prince George's County did not replace the facility. In 2010, Hillside's company number, Company 6, was reused by Prince George's County Fire / EMS Department for a new fire station in Springdale.
