Hidalgo County ESD No. 3 was formed in 1987 as Hidalgo County Rural Fire Prevention District No. 3. In 2003 with changing legislation the district was converted to an emergency services district and became the Hidalgo County Emergency Services District No. 3.
ESD No. 3 contracts with Med Care EMS for the provision of ambulance and EMS services. The ESD contracts with the Linn-San Manuel Volunteer Fire Department and currently has a provider contract with the Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department for mutual-aid and for primary service to an area closest to Edinburg Fire Station 5.
