The Great Eastern brand were Oren fire apparatus sold under the name of Great Eastern. Great Eastern was named by Ernest Day, former owner and founder of New Jersey Fire Equipment of Dunellen. Oren issued the serial numbers on all the trucks, and after delivery the company changed the name & data plates from Oren to Great Eastern. Ernie Day had an exclusive agreement with Oren to use the name Great Eastern, with the agreement ending in 1980 when Grumman (who had acquired Oren) refused to renegotiate.
