History[]
The Grand Forks Fire Department was formed in 1897. In 1956, the Grand Forks Rural Fire Department was created to protect the areas surrounding Grand Forks City. The GFRFD grew to 4 firehalls, then ceded in 1979 from Grand Forks FD to form its own stand-alone department. In November 2006 the two departments merged back into Grand Forks Fire Rescue. They currently protect an area of 93 square miles from 3 stations.
