History[]
The Gerstenslager Company was an American fire apparatus manufacturer located in Wooster, Ohio. Founded in 1860 as a carriage and wagon builder, Gerstenslager was a builder of specialty truck bodies. Production included bookmobiles, mobile medical units, mobile x-rays, television transmission trucks and postal delivery vans. In 1949, the company built its first rescue unit. Throughout the 1950s, 60s and 70s, they delivered specialty heavy rescue trucks on a variety of commercial and custom chassis to a variety of fire departments. By 1980, Gerstenslager had left the fire truck business.
Purchased by Worthington Industries in 1997 and now part of ArtiFlex Manufacturing, Gerstenslager continues to provide stampings for the automotive industry from plants in Wooster and Clyde, Ohio.
