The Fountain Valley Fire Department (FVFD) provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the city of Fountain Valley, a suburban city located some 38.5 miles southeast of Downtown Los Angeles, in Orange County, Southern California, Fountain Valley received its name from the high water table as well as the many artesian wells in the area at the times of its founding. The city was incorporated on June 13, 1957, encompasses an area covering 15.81 square miles, and serves a population of approximately 57,047 inhabitants. The City of Fountain Valley is bordered by the cities of Westminster and Garden Grove to the north; the City of Santa Ana and the Santa Ana River to the east; the City of Costa Mesa to the southeast; and the City of Huntington Beach to the south and west.
Mutual Aid[]
The Fountain Valley Fire Department has mutual aid agreements with the Orange County Fire Authority, the Anaheim Fire & Rescue, the Brea Fire Department, the Costa Mesa Fire & Rescue, the Fullerton Fire Department, the Huntington Beach Fire Department, the Newport Beach Fire Department, and the Orange City Fire Department (California).
Department Profile[]
The Fountain Valley Fire Department is budgeted for 39 uniformed / sworn members, as well as a 7-member full-time civilian staff of administrative and support personnel providing structural firefighting, emergency medical services (EMS), advanced life support (ALS), fire prevention, fire investigation, code enforcement, disaster preparedness, and public education to the citizens of Fountain Valley. The department is divided into an Administrative Division, an Operations Division and a Fire Prevention Division. Daily staffing consists of thirteen on-duty personnel (one battalion chief, three fire captains, three fire apparatus engineers, six firefighter/paramedics, working two 24-hours shifts or days in a row followed by 96-hours or four days off, out of two fire stations. The department's resources include four front-line emergency apparatus comprised of two paramedic engine companies, one paramedic ladder truck company, and one battalion chief vehicle. The two engines and the ladder truck are staffed by at least two state licensed paramedics. In addition, FVFD cross staffs one OES Type 1 engine company, Fountain Valley does not provide EMS and ambulance transport services as part of its mandate. All EMS and transport is provided under contract by Falck Mobile Health, formerly known as Care Ambulance Service. FVFD responds to approximately 7,000 calls for service annually, 86% of which are medical calls. FVFD operates a reserve firefighter program which provides training for firefighting in a volunteer system. There are 2 levels in the reserve program.
Dispatch[]
The Fountain Valley Fire Department is a member of a regional fire and emergency services communication system called Metro Cities Fire Authority, commonly referred to as "Metro Net". Metro Net is located in the City of Anaheim and provides dispatch services for seven fire agencies in Orange County.
History[]
The Fountain Valley Fire Department was formed in 1957. Fountain Valley Fire Department was granted an ISO Class 1 rating in August 2024. In 2020 FVFD Finished constructing their "Butler Building" At the rear property of Station 2 for Apparatus to be stored in.

Future Plans[]
On April 25, 2023, the Fountain Valley City Council approved plans to acquire a 2.86 acre parcel for a new Station 1 at 17101 Bushard Street. The lot was previously the site of a vacant office building. The project is currently under construction.
The Fountain Valley Fire Department is currently working with Pierce Manufacturing to construct a new Engine 32. The anticipated completion and delivery date is in 2026.
The Fountain Valley Fire Department is planning to transition from Falck contracted ambulances to in-house operated ambulances. They are planning to hire "2 full-time and six part-time ambulance operators, along with three new administrative positions: a division chief, an administrative captain and a human resources technician to oversee recruitment and staffing". 4 Ambulances are expected to be built, 2 for Reserve service. Expected transition to new ambulance fleet predicted December of 2026.
