Department Profile

The Fort Worth Fire Department is an ISO Class 1 department that provides all-hazards emergency response to the City of Fort Worth, TX and it's surrounding communities. The FWFD currently operates out of 45 stations in 8 battalions in Fort Worth city limits.

Mutual Aid

The department provides automatic aid and dispatching services to the cities of Haslet, Saginaw, Lake Worth, River Oaks, Westover Hills, Sansom Park, and Blue Mound. The FWFD also holds mutual aid contracts with other communities.

Statistics

In 2022, the department responded to 136,242 calls for service. 82,781 calls were medical incidents. 4,275 were fire incidents, including structure fires, grass/brush fires, vehicle fires, and investigations. 49,186 calls are categorized as 'other' - these include vehicle accidents, fire alarms, and HAZMAT incidents.

MedStar EMS

Emergency medical services are provided by the Metropolitan Area EMS Authority, under the operating name MedStar. MedStar is a separate agency from the FWFD. MedStar responds to all EMS calls the FWFD alarm office receives.

The city of Fort Worth is in the process of transitioning away from MedStar as the primary EMS transport service. The Fort Worth Fire Department will be taking over EMS transports. Some areas of Fort Worth are already being served by other EMS services, such as Eagle Mountain Fire-Rescue in Station 40's district.

The final day of MedStar service to the City of Fort Worth will be June 30, 2025.

Radio Channels

FWFD operates on Fort Worth Layer 2, which is a digital non-encrypted P25 Phase II system. Fort Worth Layer 2 is listed under the North Texas Interoperable Radio Network (NTIRN).
