History[]

The Ford Ord Fire Department served the military post of the same name. The Fort was in Monterey County, California. Established in 1940, the post operated until it was closed in 1994 due to Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) action.

Subsequent to its closure, much of the land was transferred to the BLM under its National Conservations Lands program and now makes up the Fort Ord National Monument. A small portion remains an active military installation under Army control, designated the Ord Military Community. The Ord Military Community comes under the protection of the Presidio of Monterey Fire Department.
