History[]
The Township of Etobicoke was incorporated in 1850 and became part of Metro Toronto in 1954. In 1967, it was merged with three separate municipalities located along the lakeshore, adding the following fire departments:
- Long Branch Fire Department
- Mimico Fire Department
- New Toronto Fire Department
On January 1, 1998 the Provincial government dissolved the metropolitan government, and all six municipalities were amalgamated into a single municipality, creating the current City of Toronto. All fire services were amalgamated into the Toronto Fire Services.
