Overview[]
The Essex Fire Engine Company No. 1 (founded in 1833) is the formal name of the Essex Fire Department, a volunteer department in the Lower Connecticut River Valley serving the community of Essex, Connecticut. In addition to the historic properties and villages of Essex, Centerbrook, and Ivoryton; EFD also responds to highway incidents on State Route 9, some light industrial properties, the Connecticut River, and a train museum.
