Area Served[]

The Elko Fire Department provides fire protection and emergency medical services for the City of Elko located in the Ruby Valley in Elko County, northeast Nevada. Elko takes its name from the Elk species of the deer family with the letter "o" added. Incorporated as a city in 1917 and known as the Heart of Northeast Nevada, the City of Elko encompasses an area covering 17.85 square miles which includes Elko Regional Airport, and serves a population of approximately 20,564 inhabitants. Elko is bordered by the unincorporated community of Coin to the northeast; by the Elko Hills to the east; by the unincorporated Town of Spring Creek to the southeast; the South Fork State Recreation Area/South Fork Dam and Reservoir to the south; and the City of Carlin to the west.

Mutual Aid[]

The Elko Fire Department has mutual aid agreements with the Elko County Fire Protection District, the Jiggs Volunteer Fire Department, the Lamoille Volunteer Fire Department, the Ryndon Volunteer Fire Department, the Ten Mile Volunteer Fire Department, and the BLM Elko District.
