History

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services, or simply Edmonton Fire Rescue, began as a volunteer fire corps, with a chemical engine, hook and ladder, and 2 general apparatus in 1891. A full-time department was created in 1906 officially named the Edmonton Fire Department.

Boundary expansions saw Edmonton assume fire protection responsibilities for the areas covered by the Beverly Fire Department and Jasper Place Fire Department in 1961 and 1964 respectively.
