Overview[]

The Dunellen Fire Department is an all volunteer department. Although located in Middlesex County. Dunellen has a population of approximately 8,000 residents in an area of a little over 1 square mile. In October of 2021 a fire broke out in their firehouse and destroyed most of their apparatus. In 2024 the firehouse reopened after repairs.

The Defender Fire Company No. 1 was formed in 1896.
