Cypress Fire Protection District (California)

Area Served[]

The Cypress Fire Protection District (CFPD) provides fire protection and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to the unincorporated area surrounding the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea, the lower Carmel Valley, and the Aguajito and Del Monte Fairways areas located in northwestern Monterey County, Central California. The district encompasses an area covering 11 square miles with a population of approximately 7,600 inhabitants.

Mutual Aid[]

CFPD works closely with two adjacent districts - the Pebble Beach Community Services District and the Carmel Highlands Fire District - that are also staffed by CAL FIRE, and maintains automatic aid agreements with, among others, the Monterey County Regional Fire District, and the Monterey Fire Department.

Department Profile[]

The Cypress Fire Protection District contracts with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) to provide fire protection and emergency medical services (EMS). Under the contract, CAL FIRE provides personnel and the District provides facilities, vehicles, equipment, and supplies for the services. CFPD is comprised of 18 full-time career firefighters and 12 paid per call firefighters working out of two fire stations, with all personnel trained to the Emergency Medical Technician level (EMT) level and each engine company having a paramedic assigned. CFPD responded to 1,666 calls for service in 2021. The district owns a 25% equity interest in the Carmel Hill Fire Station. The other owners of fire station 28 are the neighboring Pebble Beach Community Services District with a 25% interest, and CAL FIRE with a 50% interest. A cost-shared fire engine located at the Carmel Hill Fire Station provides services for the District and the Pebble Beach CSD.
