Department Profile[]
The Cramerton Fire Department is a municipal fire department serving the Towns of Cramerton and McAdenville. The department uses a combination of career (part-time) and volunteer staff. The department currently has an ISO 2 Rating.
History[]
Since 1961, the Town of Cramerton had been served by the Cramerton Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD). In 2011, the CVFD severed ties with the Town when the Town proposed its 2011-12 fiscal year contract that stipulated the town would have the power to hire and fire the chief, control finances and make CVFD workers become employees of the town. CVFD rejected the contract based on those changes, so the Town pursued creating a new municipal department. In the interim, the Community Fire Department and New Hope Volunteer Fire Department agreed to cover Cramerton’s fire service needs.
In November of 2011, the Town hired a Fire Chief and entered into a contract with the Town of McAdenville Fire Department to provide services for a six month period while new department could be established. As part of that agreement, the two towns agreed to combine fire departments, with McAdenville dissolving its department and Cramerton taking over McAdenvilles apparatus and equipment, and using its facilities as a substation.
