History[]

Department-Wide Resignation[]

On January 1st, 2022, all 17 of Cosmopolis' volunteer firefighters resigned due to several issues between the department and Mayor Kyle Pauley.[1] The neighboring Aberdeen Fire Department (Washington) provided fire services to the Town of Cosmopolis during that time. Pauley chose not seek reelection in 2024, leading to the department being staffed once again.

Central Grays Harbor Regional Fire Authority[]

In 2019, studies began to determine whether a Regional Fire Authority should be formed in the Cities of Aberdeen, Cosmopolis, and Hoquiam. On April 25, 2023, voters rejected the formation of the Central Grays Harbor Regional Fire Authority with a combined 1,961 "yes" votes and 2,742 "no" votes across the 3 cities.[2]
