Department Profile[]

The Community Fire Department is a volunteer department, operating from a single station in Belmont, North Carolina.

History[]

The Community Volunteer Fire Department began operating in July 1956. Their first truck was purchased that year from the Howe Fire Equipment Company for $9,200. In 1957, the department responded to 39 calls. In 1958, members of the department built a station on land land leased from Belmont Abbey. In 1973, the department donated their first fire truck to the newly formed East Gaston Volunteer Fire Department. In 1978, the station was damaged in a fire believed to be the result of an electrical problem. The damage was not severe and the members saved both the the department's fire engines. In 1986, the department built a new station at 6116 Wilkinson Blvd, Belmont. That building still stands and is an automotive service center.
