History[]
Chinguacousy Township was located in Peel County, north of Brampton. Fire protection was purchased from the Brampton Fire Department until 1958, when a volunteer brigade was formed to protect the community of Snelgrove. In 1962, a second brigade was formed to protect the fast-growing suburban community of Bramalea.
In 1974, the municipalities of Peel were restructured upon the formation of the Regional Municipality of Peel. The southern part of the township became part of the City of Brampton and the northern portion part of the Town of Caledon. The Bramalea and Huttonville stations became part of the Brampton Fire Department, and Snelgrove Caledon Fire and Emergency Services.
