  • The C/K3500HD DRW continued production until 2002 due to high individual and fleet sales and use of the chassis for the CUCV project.

1998 was the last year that Trim level used Cheyenne or Silverado names.

The 1999 model year brought all Chevrolet trucks into the Silverado line.

Chevrolet Blazer/GMC Jimmy[]

The Blazer/Jimmy were enclosed short bed utility vehicles.

First Generation (1969-1972)[]

  • 1969 - C/K5 - Chevrolet Blazer
  • 1970 - C/K5 - GMC Jmmy

Both models came with a fully-removable cap.

Second Generation (1973-1991)[]

  • 1973 - Removable half cap introduced.
  • 1985 - C Blazer / C Jimmy discontinued (A majority of sales were for the K model 4WD).
  • 1987 - K5 changed to V15.
  • 1991 - Model line discontinued.

Military Adaptations[]

The Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) concept, which became the Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle (CUCV) program, was intended to augment the purpose-built but expensive Gama Goat 6x6, 1¼-ton trucks and M151 series ¼-ton "jeeps" nearing the end of their service life in the mid-1970s.

The CUCV program was preceded by the M880 Series of Dodge commerical vehicles.

CUCV I[]

In the mid-1980s, Chevrolet C/Ks replaced Dodge vehicles in CUCV I and CUCV II guise.

The C/K Series CUCV came in four basic body styles, based on an improved K30 or K5 chassis and running gear:

  • M1008 - 1¼-ton cargo truck (Often referred to as a "D30" or K3500 for post-1987 models)
  • M1008A - 1¼-ton communications
  • M1009 - 1¾-ton utility (K5)
  • M1010 - 1¼-ton ambulance
  • M1028 - 1¾-ton SRW shelter carrier (command, communications, intelligence)
  • M1028A1 - 1¾-ton SRW w/ PTO shelter carrier (command, communications, intelligence)
  • M1028A2 - 1¾-ton DRW w/ PTO shelter carrier
  • M1028A3 - 1¾-ton DRW w/ PTO shelter carrier
  • M1031 - 1¾-ton chassis only

The CUCV I was not just an adapted C/K series truck, but an entirely re-engineered package. There were many variants of these basic styles.

GM produced some 70,000 CUCVs from 1983 to 1986 (model years 1984–1987), though most were model year 1984.

CUCV II[]

The second CUCV program began in 1987 and carried through to 2001. These units were basic civilian Chevrolet C/K, Tahoe, and Suburban units sent for aftermarket paint and body upgrades, as well as the addition of a 24VDC starting and radio power system (The remainder of the vehicle was 12VDC).

All CUCV IIs were manufactured with full-time all-wheel drive.

CUCV III[]

The CUCV III was based on General Motors GMT800 truck chassis, and was available with a brush guard, on-board air compressor, navigation system, 120-volt AC power inverter, front or rear winch, 35" run-flat tires and beadlock wheels. The CUCV III had a 6.6-liter Duramax diesel and Allison 5-speed automatic transmission. (The GMT800 was a General Motors full size truck chassis in production from the 1999 to 2009 model years.)

The CUCV program name was changed to Light Service Support Vehicle (LSSV) in 2000.

LSSV[]

The LSSV began production in 2001. Initally upfitting was performed by General Motors, with AM General taking over in 2005. The LSSV is based on General Motors GMT900 HD truck chassis. The LSSV is powered by a Duramax diesel, in a crew cab or standard cab configuration. It could also be equipped with an enhanced mobility package which included underbody protection, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Upfitting of the LSSV for military duty is performed by AM General.

The LSSV included the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, Chevrolet Tahoe, and Chevrolet Suburban.

Milverado[]

The "Milverado" was a MILCOTS (Militarized Commercial Off The Shelf) Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD produced by General Motors for the Canadian Armed Forces. A total of 1061 units were ordered starting in the 2001 model year.
