Cherry Point Refinery Fire Rescue

About

The Cherry Point Refinery is located west of Ferndale Washington in Whatcom County and commenced operations in 1971. It covers an area of 3300 acres (5.2 square miles) and is the largest refinery in Washington state and the 30th largest in the U.S.A. The refinery is supplied mainly by tankers transporting North Slope crude oil from Alaska and also crude oil from western Canada supplied by pipeline. Originally owned by the Atlantic Ritchfield Company (ARCO), it was sold in 2002 to British Petroleum (BP). Daily production is 225,000 barrels of crude, producing mainly gasoline and aviation fuel. The refinery supplies almost all of the aviation fuel for Seatac Airport in Seattle, Portland International in Oregon and Vancouver International in BC. Cherry Point Fire Rescue operates from 3 stations located in the refinery complex.
