Atomic Energy Canada Ltd. (now Canadian Nuclear Laboratories) was established in 1952 and began operations at the Chalk River Laboratories, a nuclear research facility near Chalk River, Ontario. The facility Fire department staff also provide management services to the Town of Deep River for operation of the nearby Deep River Fire Department.
