Overview[]
The Carmel Volunteer Fire Department is one of three contracted fire services covering the Town of Carmel (the other two being the Mahopac Volunteer and Mahopac Falls FDs). Carmel VFD is Putnam county fire department #12, and forms part of Response Division #3, which covers the hamlet of Carmel and town of Kent. The department is responsible for an area roughly corresponding to the hamlet of Carmel plus some parts outside of it to the south and west (roughly the east 1/3 of the town). The majority of the calls for the department are related to AFAs (Automatic Fire Alarms) or MVAs (Motor Vehicle Accidents) along the busy Route 6 corridor. The department tends to average around 400 calls per year.
