Area Served[]

Cannon Air Force Base, established in 1942 as Clovis Army Air Field, is a United States Air Force Base, located approximately 7 miles southwest of Clovis, in Curry County, on the far eastern state line of New Mexico, adjacent to the state of Texas. The base is named in honor of General John K. Cannon (1892–1955), a World War II Mediterranean combat commander and former chief of United States Air Forces in Europe. The host unit at the base is the 27th Special Operations Wing which activated on 1 October 2007 and is assigned to the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC).

Aircraft rescue and firefighting, structure firefighting, emergency medical services, fire prevention and inspection for Cannon AFB is provided by the 27th Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron / Cannon Fire Department, a subordinate unit of the 27th Special Operations Mission Support Group, consisting of a mix of civilian and military firefighters.

Future Plans[]

In 2023 a "Sources Sought" for preliminary planning purposes was published for the construction of a fire station at Melrose Air Force Range.

Cannon AFB received $2 million to plan and design a new fire station and emergency communications center in FY 2024 appropriations.
