History[]

The Parks Reserve Forces Training Area was established as a US Navy installation, home to the Navy Seabees, in 1943, named after Rear Admiral Charles W. Parks, the 17th Chief of Civil Engineers, USN. In 1973, the US Army determined that Camp Parks was needed as a mobilization and training center for Reserve Components in the event of war or natural disaster. In 1980, it was redesignated as a semi-active installation and renamed Parks Reserve Forces Training Area.
