The Firebird was an aerial firefighting device developed by the Calavar Corporation.
History & Production[]
In 1969 the Firebird 125 was introduced, this was a 125 foot articulating boom with a platform similar in concept to the Snorkel. The Firebird differed by utilizing a telescoping feature on the booms which allowed for a more compact unit.
By 1972 series would include 90 and 150 foot versions, respectively named Firebird 90 and Firebird 150.
The company offered the Firebird in 75 and 100 foot versions but only a single example of each size would be built.
Although a few taller aerial ladders were available in 1969, the Firebird 125 would hold the record as the tallest aerial platform available in North America until 1972 when the Firebird 150 was introduced. The Firebird 150 would in turn hold the distinction as the tallest aerial device in North American until 1986 when Anderson's Engineering became the distributor for a 50 meter (165 foot) aerial platform made by Bronto Skylift.
