History[]
Canadian Forces Base Chatham was a military air base located near Chatham (now Miramichi), New Brunswick. Built as a training airfield during the Second World War, RCAF Chatham became a fighter interceptor base, home to squadrons flying the F-86 Sabre, CF-101 Voodoo and CF-116 (F-5A) Freedom Fighter. Fighter operations ended when 434 Squadron was disbanded in 1989. The base was home to the Air Defence Artillery School for a few years, but the base was closed in 1996 as part of broader defence cuts. It is now home to Miramichi Airport.
St. Margarets Detachment[]
The former RCAF Station St. Margarets, a radar station, became a detachment of CFB Chatham due to its close proximity to the base. A separate fire station was located here.
