CAL FIRE Santa Clara Unit

Area Served[]

The CAL FIRE Santa Clara Unit (SCU) provides fire protection and emergency medical services to the unincorporated areas of the counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, and Santa Clara, as well as to the western portions of San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties. Alameda and Contra Costa counties are located in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay area, Santa Clara County is located in the South Bay region of the San Francisco Bay area, whereas San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties are located in the Central Valley region of Northern California. SCU encompasses an area covering approximately 2.7 million acres, while serving a resident population of approximately 5.5 million inhabitants.

The CAL FIRE Santa Clara Unit has automatic and mutual aid agreements with the Alameda County Fire Department, the Berkeley Fire Department, the East Bay Regional Park District Fire Department, the Fremont Fire Department, the Hayward Fire Department, the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department, the Oakland Fire Department, the Piedmont Fire Department, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, the Crockett-Carquinez Fire Department, the El Cerrito Fire Department, the Moraga-Orinda Fire Protection District, the Richmond Fire Department, the Rodeo-Hercules Fire District, the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District, the Gilroy Fire Department, the Santa Clara County Fire Department, the South Santa Clara County Fire District, the Milpitas Fire Department, the Morgan Hill Fire Department, the Palo Alto Fire Department, the San José Fire Department, the South San Joaquin County Fire Authority, and the West Stanislaus County Fire Protection District.

Department Profile[]

The CAL FIRE Santa Clara Unit staffs eighteen fire stations and, among other resources, three wildland bulldozers, four firefighter hand crews, the Alma Helitack Base, which is home to a Sikorsky S70i Fire Hawk water-dropping helicopter, and the Morgan Hill Emergency Command Center, which provides dispatching resources for the unit.
