Department Profile[]
The Broward County Sheriff's Office (BSO) is a public safety department responsible for law enforcement and fire protection in Broward County, Florida. For this, it consists of several departments:
- The Law Enforcement Department
- The Department of Fire and Rescue
- The Detention & Community Control Penitentiary Department
- The 911 Communications Division
The sheriff's office is made up of 5,800 employees, including approximately 2,800 sheriff's deputies and approximately 600 firefighters.
Contract Operations[]
The City of Weston contracts with the BSO Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Services Operations for fire and emergency services. Weston retains ownership of, and supplies the apparatus and stations. The current contract expires September 30, 2029.
The City of Deerfield Beach contracts with the BSO Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Services Operations for fire and emergency services. Deerfield Beach retains ownership of, and supplies the apparatus and stations. The current contract expires Apr. 1, 2026.
The City of Lauderdale Lakes contracts with the BSO for both law enforcement and fire and emergency medical services. Lauderdale Lakes retains ownership of, and supplies the apparatus and stations.
The City of Dania Beach contracts with the BSO Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Services for the provision of emergency medical, fire protection and fire prevention services. Dania Beach transferred of all real and personal property for use by the BSO. Apparatus purchased by the city is sub-leased to the BSO. The current contract expires Sep. 30, 2025. [1]
The City of West Park and the Town of Pembroke Park contract with the BSO for law enforcement, EMS, fire rescue, and fire prevention services.
History[]
Cooper City's police and fire rescue departments merged with BSO in February 2004.
BSO has provided service to West Park and Pembroke Park since October 1, 2007.
Hallandale Beach’s Fire Rescue services merged with the BSO on January 4, 2020.
BSO has provided fire rescue services to the City of Lauderdale Lakes since 2003 and the Cities of Deerfield Beach and Dania Beach since October 2011.
