Not to be confused with HME or KME.
Boise Mobile Equipment, or BME, is an American fire apparatus manufacturer located in Boise, Idaho. Formed in 1990, BME initially specialized in wildland rigs and later expanded production to include municipal apparatus.
On September 16, 2021, Pierce Manufacturing announced that it had "completed the purchase of an ownership interest" in Boise Mobile Equipment.[1]
Production[]
BME builds pumpers, tankers and rescues, on both custom and commercial chassis. They have also rebuilt a number of older rigs.
The US Forest Service has been a significant long time customer of BME, having ordered hundreds of wildland fire engines and specialty apparatus from the company since 1990.
Apparatus Numbering[]
For all Boise Mobile trucks there is a four-digit internal build number ("production number"), e.g. "3223". The BME serial number for each truck would be the build number + the last three digits of the VIN, e.g. 3223637. This is the same for all trucks, CAL FIRE, USFS, and any custom builds. The only exceptions would be very early trucks "pre-1999" and the first couple of rounds of USFS builds.
