History[]

“The ninth fire department to be established in Floyd County was The Auxier Volunteer Fire Department. The department was officially founded in January of 1969 after a fire destroyed 3 homes in the Auxier Community. The first time the department was mentioned in the Floyd County Times was on December 10 1970 when funds became available to purchase land to build a fire station on. Auxier Community is located in the Northern most part of the county and was founded around 1900 as a coal camp and mining town. It was named for the Auxier Family who were among the first settlers of the area. Today the Auxier Volunteer Fire Department operates two engines, a mini pumper, 2 tankers, a squad, and other support trucks. They operate out of a single station and serve the areas of little paint, Whitaker, Auxier, Jenny Wiley lake, east point and other areas of the northern end of our county.”- Floyd County Firefighters Association
