Polymer Corporation was established by the Canadian government in 1942 to supply synthetic rubber for the war effort. Located in Sarnia, Ontario, the company was renamed Polysar in 1976 and remained under government ownership until it was privatized in 1988. The facility was purchased by Bayer AG in 1990 and spun off as Lanxess AG in 2005. Lanxess and Saudi Aramco formed the Arlanxeo joint venture in 2016. Saudi Aramco assumed full control of the company in 2018.
