History[]

Anaheim Fire & Rescue was formed in 1857 as the 20-person Anaheim Volunteer Fire Department. In 1915, two full-time firefighters were hired. In 1960, all remaining volunteer firefighters were replaced by professional firefighters. The Department has maintained an ISO Class 1 rating since March, 2014. In 2015, AFR initiated its Community Care Response Unit (CCRU), consisting of an ambulance staffed by a certified nurse practitioner and an Anaheim fire captain/paramedic. The unit responds to low level, non-urgent medical requests. The ambulance is provided by Care Ambulance Service.
