Amthor International, previously known as Amthor Welding Service Inc., is an American fire apparatus manufacturer located in Gretna, Virginia.
Original founder Ed Amthor opened a blacksmith's shop in Ellenville, New York in 1928. In 1943, he passed the business to his son William, who moved the business to his welding shop in Walden. The company specialized mainly in farm machinery and truck equipment, but started building fire trucks in 1947. Amthor offered pumpers, tankers, mini-pumpers and rescue trucks. The move to Gretna took place in 1992.
Today, Amthor is a builder of a wide variety of commercial tankers for industry, including fuel, propane and vacuum trucks, as well as mobile crane trucks and other specialty vehicles. For fire service applications, they specialize in tankers.
