The Amoskeag Locomotive Works was an American fire apparatus manufacturer located in Manchester, New Hampshire. They operated as a division of the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company (a large producer of textiles), and primarily built steam locomotives and steam fire engines from 1848, until their parent company sold them to the Manchester Locomotive Works in 1876.
History[]
One of the largest and most well-known steam fire engine manufacturers of the late 19th century, Amoskeag's origins come from a new machine shop for their parent company in 1848, and the first steam locomotive rolled out the following year. Amoskeag built locomotives until 1859, when they switched over to steam-powered fire engines.
