The Town of Amherstburg, located south of Windsor on the Detroit River and Lake Erie, has a population of 21,700 people over an area of 186 square kilometres. The Amherstburg Fire Department is a composite department.
History[]
The AFD can trace its origins back to 1841. The current Amherstburg Fire Department was created in 1998 through the amalgamation of the original Town of Amherstburg Fire Department, the Anderdon Township Fire Department and the Malden Township Fire Department. Station 1 is the town station, Station 2 Anderdon and Station 3 Malden.

Future Plans[]
Amherstburg adopted a new two-fire station plan in September 2021. A new station will be built on the site of the current Station 2. Stations 1 and 3 will be decommissioned and replaced with a 4-bay new station located at 3295 Meloche Road. Construction bids were called in July 2024.
