Almonte

Almonte Fire Trucks was a fire apparatus manufacturer located in Almonte and Carleton Place, Ontario, Canada.

History[]

Almonte Fire Trucks was created in 1978 in Almonte, Ontario. In 1988, the company relocated to a new manufacturing plant in nearby Carleton Place. In 1999, Almonte was sold to Seagrave Corporation and renamed Seagrave Fire Apparatus Company in 2003. Seagrave Canada served the Canadian market and built commercial chassissed Seagrave apparatus for delivery to the United States. Production under Seagrave wound down in 2010 and the building was sold to Eastway Emergency Vehicles in 2011. Most of the key personal and production staff were hired by Plaintree Systems Inc. to continue building fire apparatus under the Arnprior Fire Trucks Corp (AFTC) banner in Arnprior, Ontario.

Production[]

Approximately 500 trucks were built under the Almonte name. Earlier rigs, mainly tankers and pumpers, were built on commercial chassis, but by the early 1990s, Almonte was also delivering trucks on Spartan and Pemfab chassis. The company built trucks for departments across Ontario, particularly in the eastern part of the province and also delivered apparatus to departments in Québec and New York state. Almonte built pumpers, tankers, mini-pumpers, rescue trucks and brush trucks. A few trucks were built using refurbished aerial devices.
