History[]
“The seventh fire department to form in the county was "Community Fire Department" (Allen Volunteer Fire Department) on January 26th 1962. The Town of Allen was founded on August 21st 1854 and was known then as The Mouth of Beaver because of its location as where Beaver Creek flows out into the Levisa Fork of the Big Sandy River. It saw a large growth between 1904 and 1905 after the C&O Railroad established a railroad station in the town. In 1905 the town was renamed Allen after local resident T.J. Allen. In 1913 the Town of Allen was officially incorporated by the State Generally Assembly. In 1937 a bridge was built to span the Levisa Fork River and the area of "New Allen" was born. On January 26th 1962 a meeting was held to start a fire department. With donations from the community and it's members, the department was able to purchase a truck, equipment and build a station. The new department was formed not only for the Community of Allen but to help our whole county. Today Allen Volunteer Fire Department operates as volunteer Fire Dept with its members being reimbursed for their gas and time to runs. They run 6 engines (one of which is a pumper tanker), an ATV and many other support vehicles, out of three stations. Station one is located in New Allen, Station two is located at Dana on Prater Creek and Station 3 is located at the junction of Ky 1428 and Finance Hollow Rd.”- Floyd County Firefighters Association
